Harvey Hines, a retired law enforcement officer, believes that Lawrence Kane is the Zodiac Killer. Kane, who was last known living in Nevada, lived on Eddy Street in San Francisco during the period when the Zodiac killer was active in the Bay area. According to Pam Huckaby, Darlen Ferrin's sister, Kane was said to have been stalking Ferrin shortly before her murder.
Hines claims that Kane's handwriting matches that of the Zodiac. One of the Zodiac's ciphers can even be rearrnged to read "MY NAME KANE" (See above image).
Lawrence (or "Larry") Kane was involved in a car accident in 1962 in which he suffered permanent brain damage. According to doctors, this left him unable to control his urges for self-gratification. He was arrested on numerous occasions as a "peeping Tom." One of these incidences occurred in Redwood City in 1968, only four months before the first known Zodiac attack.
Hines also implicates Kane in the 1970 disappearance of Donna Lass from South Lake Tahoe. Lass, was working at the Letterman General Hospital in San Francisco the night that Paul Stine was killed. The hospital was only six block from the murder scene. Hines postulates that the Zodiac may have encountered lass that very night.
In June of 1970, both Kane and Lass moved to South Lake Tahoe. They both worked at the Sahara Tahoe Hotel Casino. People that knew both persons said that Lass and Kane knew each other. Lass disappeared Septemebr 9, 1970, just four months after Kane seemed to have followed her to Lake Tahoe.
Hines claims that Kathleen Johns, a purported kidnap victim of the Zodiac, identified Kane as her abductor in the late 1980s.
